1896

In 1896, the company The National Harbor Company Ltd. obtained the concession of the Port of Maceió under the permissive provisions of Imperial Law No. 1,746, of October 13, 1869, but was unable to carry out the works necessary for its operation, and the contract was terminated in 1905, by the Federal Government.

1910

New studies were prepared, but, for financial reasons, it was not possible to continue the development of the Port of Maceió facilities.

1933

By Decree No. 23,469, of November 16, 1933, the Union authorized the Government of the State of Alagoas to build and commercially explore the Port.

1935

The execution of the current project begins, under the responsibility of Companhia Geral de Obras e Construções S.A. – GEOBRA.

1940

On October 20th, the Port of Jaraguá was inaugurated, marking a new phase in the city's port development.

1942

On January 23, 1942, there was the first official operation at the Port of Maceió with sugar shipments.

Décadas de 1940 a 1960

Period of economic growth and expansion of port operations to meet the growing demand for agricultural and industrial products.

1963

On August 9, Decree No. 52,345 was issued, transferring the link from the Administration of the Port of Maceió to the Federal Government, through the National Department of Ports and Waterways - DNPVN.

1970s

1970s: Construction of the Liquid Bulk Terminal, an important addition to the port's infrastructure, allowing the transport of products such as oil and derivatives.

1974

O aterro hidráulico propiciou a implantação do Terminal Açucareiro e do novo Cais Comercial, totalizando 750 metros de linha de cais. The hydraulic landfill enabled the implementation of the Sugar Terminal and the new Commercial Pier, totaling 750 meters of pier line.

1975

The Federal Government created, succeeding the DNPVN, the Brazilian Ports Company – PORTOBRÁS.

1978

Construction of new road access, external rockfill and an electricity network.

1980s

Modernization and expansion of port facilities to increase the efficiency of operations and accommodate increased cargo volumes.

1989

Start of construction of the oil pier.

1990

Termination of the Brazilian Ports Company – PORTOBRÁS, and beginning of the link with Companhia Docas do Rio Grande do Norte – CODERN, through an Agreement signed with the National Transport Secretariat – SNT and the National Department of Waterway Transport – DNTA.

1990 onwards

Intensification of efforts to modernize the port and increase its operational capacity, including investments in technology and automation.

1995

Completion and delivery of the construction of the oil pier.

1995

Dredging works in the access channel and in the commercial pier evolution basin

2000

Launch of the 24-hour port project, aiming to expand the port's opening hours to better meet the demands of international trade.

2001

Start of construction of the Container Wharf (currently Multi-Use Wharf 2), extending the Commercial Wharf by 80 meters, connected to the northern end of the Sugar Terminal and forming a 350-meter-long dam;

2010

Implementation of port security measures in accordance with international regulations, aiming to guarantee the security of operations and prevent illicit activities.

2011

Completion of works on the Container Wharf (currently Multi-Use Wharf 2).

2012

The Port of Maceió expands its business by incorporating the offshore segment into its list of clients.

2018

Carrying out dredging works to deepen the access channel to the port, allowing the entry of larger ships and increasing the efficiency of operations.

2020

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on port operations, with measures being adopted to ensure the continuity of activities safely.

2021

Delivery of the Port of Maceió Passenger Terminal on 12/07/2021, beginning its activities with the operation of the first tourist cruise of the 2021/2022 cruise season on 12/08/2021, representing an important milestone for the development of port and tourist infrastructure in the region.

Auction of MACs 11, 11A, and 12 and MAC 15

2024

Signing of the Contract for the assignment of free use of the area does not affect the operation of the Administration of the Port of Maceió – APMC-CODERN in favor of the Municipality of Maceió.
